"Speaking of Ecuador in Korea, the first thing that comes to mind is the 'Bonita' banana brand. But Ecuador has a cultural spectrum as rich as its banana business, which exports worldwide. It is no exaggeration to say that it is one of the most culturally and racially diverse countries in the Americas.

In the midst of this diversity, Ecuador is home to designer Vanessa Zúñiga Tinizaray's studio AMUKI. More of a research center than a design studio, it's a manifestation of experimental typography that draws on history, culture, archaeology, and design."

"Since 2004, Vanessa Zúñiga Tinizaray, an Ecuadorian designer working primarily with pattern and modular fonts, has been building on a research project that aims to elevate the legacy of ancestral Latin American design...

Creating visual symbols through the extraction and analysis of Indigenous Latin American artefacts, such as archaeological pieces, textiles or facial paintings, Vanessa’s research deep-dives into the visual trails of Latin America’s ancestral design history. "

Participación en la Exhibición Bauhaus Typography at 100 de Letterform Archive, en donde muestro un minúsculo adelanto del proyecto de investigación Crónicas Visuales del Abya Yala, en lo que respecta al capítulo Amazonas en el que vengo trabajando desde febrero del 2020, y del cual se ha desarrollado una familia tipográfica con la cual se diseño una serie de carteles, así como proyectos de identidad visual. En la exhibición Bauhaus Typography at 100 presentamos el concepto sobre la ceremonia denominada Tzantza (Tsantsa).
